Acting gig 2

Earlier this week on Tuesday i decide to randomly call to see what kind of work they were offering for acting. Usually they try to book for the next day, so I was surprised that they were booking for Friday. I fit all the criteria and called. AND I GOT IT! I was sooo excited!

I try to call and text cynthia for the longest time but she didn't answer, turns out she was writing her paper. Well the next day she tries to get the job and she gets it. We both are excited but the night before the people call her and cancel it for her. SAD. That really sucks.

The role i played this time was a high school student.

The place was kind of far away in Tarzana. I drove there expecting traffic but there's no traffic and i get there 30mins early. We had to bring 2 whole outfits, but it is because they might have not liked what we were wearing. I even brought pants! Well i only had to change my shirt, they like magenta. Not going to lie, wearing a long sleeve tee and standing in the sun is really hot. Luckily we were just in a holding area for 30mins. We walk to a middle school. Portola middle school, oh SB.

They make us sit outside under some tents but it is still hot so they move us into some classrooms. Way better. Crazy thing is that i saw my next door neighbor, he also had this gig. We should have carpooled hahaha! So we just waited in the class room for about 2 hours then a break for lunch for an hour. Then more waiting and we finally start filming at 5pm, i got there at 12:30.

While we were in holding some girls kept singing Ke$ha's "We R Who We R" and played it on their phone. That song is so darn catchy, before you know it me and this guy kept singing it. That song kept me going while filming.

For one set they made me do a "Suicide" where i cut between the main actors and the camera. YAY! Facetime on TV! The filming took about 2.5 hours. We were all glad to get out of there. I wish they fed us after hahaha!

OHH! Also while filming this guy was walking down the hall and out the door but SMACKS into the pole in between. EVERYONE started laughing really hard but we couldn't make noise so we were all laughing silently. I started sweating because i can't release my laugher. At the time the camera was filming far away but the cameraman saw it and asked if he was okay and he was. It was just really funny.

Also i noticed out "high school" don't have fat people, that was weird.

ALSO, i got a 3rd gen ipod touch for free and that makes me excited! Too bad stuff only works with wifi but it will come in handy at comic con.

Additional acting bits

Just remembered stuff from acting the other day. They provided snack-ies and i randomly grabbed a donut, i was pleasantly surprised by the blueberry jam filling, NOM! Also some guy came up to me cuz i was reading a physical geography book. He was kind of cute but he is Australian. He was trying to get rid of his accent, which is sad. He also told me he used to be a Genetics major, what a surprise but graduated with science journalism. He was nice and interesting but a bit weird.

Also I'm pretty sure i'm going to start using a call-in service to get acting jobs during my winter break. I have a really long break so I can work during the weekday. I'm pretty excited about this, I've always loved TV now i get to be on TV and get paid doing it.

First day of paid acting/extra

Last night i got a call from my acting agency, they wanted my car and me to be in some new show. This is the first time I've been contacted instead of me calling-in. I figure i can just miss a day of class, I'm getting an A in that class anyways. Thing is, call time is at 6am, so i have to be there at 6am. I finally go to sleep at midnight, I'm nervous and excited, my first ever gig!

I wake up at 4:45am get ready and drive all the way to LA. There was actually some traffic at 5:30am, crazy crazy. I drive around downtown LA at sunset, there's barely any cars and is quite beautiful. It took me a while to find the parking structure we're supposed to use. I run and go find the building I have to be in. There was lots of running. I finally found it and someone told me that i was super early, ugh.

I brought my textbook with me as a prop and to study. I try to read but i hear interesting stuff from the next table. So i join them and we all talk. There was a girl and a guy. The girl says that she gets work like 3-4 days a week. I am very impressed but she says it's because she paid for a call-in service. So she pays them like $70 a month but she gets steady work, so that's worth it. The guy is pretty new, this is his second gig. He's pretty cute too.

There are actually a lot of people at this shoot. We check-in by getting papers that pay us later. They check our wardrobe. People were pretty serious about wardrobe, a bunch of people brought suitcases with different clothes.

The production people guide us to a place where they have breakfast for us. Apparently they give us a really good breakfast. We had a lot of choices for breakfast: scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage patty, oatmeal, cereal, fruit, hash browns, coffee and orange juice. It was a pretty good breakfast, I was pretty nervous.

After breakfast we did a lot of waiting. I was a car person so we had to do different things. Since i had very little gas i was one of the people that was supposed to just park their car on the street. I was happy because driving in circles under someone's directions seem scary. So then we do more waiting. I talk to the guy and we're both TV fanatics. It was really fun talking to someone that's as obsessed as me about TV. If only he wasn't gay! Bummer.

They call everyone out except the parked car people. Cute gay guy was one of the drivers so i had no one to talk to. So we just wait in the room for a long time, I tried studying but the boringness was getting to me and i was getting sleepy. I figured he didn't need us anymore so I wander outside. I just decide to be a pedestrian it's not like they're going to care. They're paying me, might as well use me on the streets instead of sitting inside. So what we do is walk around. Wait, then walk some more, repeat.

It was kind of boring but then i call Cynthia and tell her about everything that happened. I looked like a real New Yorker, walking fast and talking on the phone. More realistic hahaha! Thing is that i really didn't know where the cameras, i just walked where they told me to. I also got some free coffee samples, looks really delicious.

So it's a wrap, we only actually did 2 or 3 hours of work. They told us to stay, so everyone wrapped up. I didn't get to talk or say bye to the cute gay guy :( then they said we were wrapped. We got compted for our parking. I was pretty damn tired when we left at 2:30pm.

This gig really made me want to actually do acting actively on my time off.

UCSB vs. Fullerton

On Saturday, Ann, Mika and I went to SB for the Men's Soccer Big West Championship game. We got to SB around 2pm and met up with Mary and Tony. We all piled into Ann's car like old times and drove down to State st. We had lunch at The Habit and went shopping at Urban. It felt like old times and it felt like home. I think I returned to my worry-less mood and just enjoyed the moments as they came.

We bought some booze and went back to the apartment. We all had different stuff and proceeded to get drunk. Then we all walked to the soccer game. Of course we were in the Gaucho Loco section, where else would we be? The game was really fun, we learned some new cheers and we won. Overall a great game. We took lots of pictures and got a coupon for a free burger from Silvergreens! I got my wish to eat at Silvergreens.

Went back to the apartment, ate and chilled. It felt really good but of course we had to leave. Oh i miss SB, but it was really great visiting.

On the drive back, Ann and I had real talk while Mika talked to a boy she liked on the phone. We need to have more trips to SB or anywhere else.

Whine whine whine

Being broke really sucks. I don't have money to eat out, hang out with friends, do fun things or even buy simple things.

My social life is basically in the toilet because I can't afford to do anything. I would have visited SB more if I had money to get back to SB and back AND money for gas for going to school and back.

But i guess it's my fault, I haven't really applied for too many jobs. Most jobs want me to apply online. I feel that doing that is very impersonal and that they don't even read my application/resume.

I was thinking about going with a Temp Service place, but those require you to work full time which I cannot do because I am deferring my loan payments. I wouldn't make enough money to pay my loans and have some fun money. I miss fun money, booo.

I miss eating at Chipotle :(

Trying new things/church experience

I miss having roommates, I miss just talking to other people just to hear myself, I miss having no one to just talk about mundane things. So I'm going to start blogging a little bit more.

Today I went to study with some people at this girl, Bree's house. I thought we were just going to sit around studying. Surprise, her family is having a BBQ and we're going to get tons of yummy food to eat. It really caught me by surprise. We did very little studying and did mostly eating and talking. It was cool hanging out with people from class.

I tried some new food too. I actually ate cilantro without it tasting like soap or tasting really strong. Bree's mom offered me some chimichurri, she told me it was made from chopped up cilantro and parsley. I was very reluctant and I told her that I didn't like cilantro. The mom told me her mother-in-law also hates cilantro. Hey I try anything once. You're supposed to put it on meat. So we had some steak and i tried just a bit. It was actually really good, i couldn't taste the soapyness or strongness of it. Let's just say i ate a ton of this chimichurri.

This is going to sound gross but the next thing i tried was FUCKING delicious. Bree's mom told us that a friend taught her how to make this delicious thing. Take strawberry and roll/cover it in sour cream then you roll it in brown sugar. Eat up! It was just so surprisingly good.

Everyone in my group, 3 other people, go to church. Today's sunday, so they were going to go to church. I didn't mind tagging along because we were going to study for reals after. A lot of people know i don't believe in God and don't really care for religion. So we go in, it's a really nice place, furnished by IKEA. It's a young person's parish (?). The pasture is talking and i'm listening. I was fine with the over all message he was promoting, which was to love everyone, blah blah blah. There were some instances during his speech, which i highly disagreed but it was whatever. I only got pissed off when he, in passing, bashed evolution.

I was fine with the preaching, the part i hated the most was the singing. It was about 30mins of singing God songs. At this time i'm just watching people and how they react/behaved to the songs. This is what freaked me out the most. People looked like they were in a trance, singing along with the lyrics and raising their arms up in faith. It was really scary to me, people were soooo into it. It wasn't so bad because to me it seemed like it was a concert where people were enthusiastic and singing along. The bad part was that they were doing this with their eyes closed.

After the service we just hung out, i was bored because i didn't really have anyone to talk to. The guys just paired off and started their bro-talks, which i'm okay with, i just wasn't in the conversation. The guys just took their freaking time in hanging out. By the time we got back, it was around 10pm. We all decided to just go home because it was late.

Overall a good day. My group is pretty cool. Except the guys were teasing me about being a Satan worshiper. Yeah...I'm never going to church again.

What a blog? YEAH!

Just the other day I added some guy I met from study abroad. He's pretty cute but that's beside the point, hahaha! He messaged me saying that he remembered me and that he's in Asia teaching. The last time I talked to him, in person, he was off to Spain to teach as well. In his message back to me he says that he spent about 4 years in Europe and wanted to go to Asia, so he did just that.

I start thinking back to when me and Ann were studying abroad, we were super positive people. We were just living in the moment and waiting for the next adventure. It was just so freeing being abroad, making friends with new people, learning cultural differences. I just get a warm fuzzy feeling thinking about it.

The last couple of months, I've just been constantly worrying. I've been worrying about getting a job, going to grad school, being able to get the classes I want in community college, and also worrying about the school loan debt that I'm carrying. Of course all of this stuff is putting a damper on having fun and being carefree.

I look back at the guy i added and he's off abroad teaching and having the time of his life. It really seems like he's really happy and that he hasn't a bother in the world. Of course I'm jealous, but also his positivity makes me wonder.

Why not think positively? It's not going to hurt, all this worrying is not doing me any good. Makes me think that i've been a damper on myself.

All those things, above, i can just stop worry about and it wouldn't be a problem. There's just one thing i can't shake, the future unknown. I'm the type of person who like to be ready when something comes up but there are just too many possibilities ahead of me and it's scary because i don't know if it's going to turn out good or bad.

I guess i just don't realize that when those things finally come, i will probably be able to deal with it without having too much problems and once it's over, I know i'm going to ask myself what i was worried about in the first place.

I just have to keep in mind that the future is unknown but that i'll be able to deal with it then. There's no use in trying to prepare for everything ahead of me. Might as well just live in the moment, even though it's hard when you're really broke (woops negatively slipped, this is going to be hard).

202/365 Wednesday SDCC

I'll try to type up what i remember, i have terrible memory.

Got up early-ish, i don't think i slept that much the night before. Packed up all my stuff into my car and made a quick stop to IKEA. I only wanted their $2 2 hot dog, drink and chips deal, but i came too early and i didn't want to wait 30mins for that part of the store to open. So i went to eat breakfast in their restaurant. I got some $2 breakfast meal, when i went to pay guess who was at the register? My ex from high school. I tried not to make it awkward by trying to act normal. I think it worked. So the breakfast had french toast sticks, bacon, and eggs. The eggs were fake and i knew it immediately, i didn't eat them, they grossed me out. The other stuff i tried to eat, but i know forcing myself to eat doesn't work. So i basically threw away most my food, lovely. I went downstairs for the hot dog deal and went on my way.

Drove to Irvine to pick Mika up. I expected traffic but didn't get any which i'm okay with. We then started our journey. We talked about a bunch of random stuff. We hit some traffic, it wasn't so bad just a small delay. During this time Mika shows me these things she made. They were black cotton balls with googley eyes. She then proceeds to throw them at me, while i'm driving! Okay i'm exaggerating, they popped out of her fingers and i got really scared for some reason, lucky we weren't moving at the time. After that patch of traffic everything was fine. I think we were only like 30min delayed.

We get to SD and try to call Ann but she didn't pick up her phone. We went to this different place to try to get our volunteer badges but we were at the wrong place, we were supposed to get it at the convention center. We left their parking and had to pay $3 for like 20min of parking >:( what a rip off. So we drive to the convention center and then drive in circles looking for parking. We found some street parking and paid the meter. We walked to the convention center, it wasn't too far and the streets were super easy to navigate. We got our assignments and just hung around the convention center until Mary and her friends got to the hotel. I actually got a preview night pass, i was debating whether to go or to just sell it hahaha!

Ann finally called back so we parked near her school, it was pretty cheap. We visited her studio and hung out there for a while. She was working on a life size 3D rendition of herself made out of cardboard. Ann introduced us to her hot friends and we just chilled for a little bit. I made her a monster thing out of cardboard. Her class was going to start or something so me and mika stopped by this awesome shiwarma place. I was seriously in love with my falafel. Once Mary and her friends got to the hotel me and Mika drove over to Ann's house and parked the car there. We got picked up and me and Mary got dropped off at the convention center because i wanted to go to preview night and i had to show her how to get an assignment.

I was by my lonesome at preview but it was no biggy. I got there like 6:30 when it started at 6pm. I wandered around trying to look for toys to buy, Ann wanted a Nibbler and i wanted a bunch of stuff too. So i just stand in line to buy some Scott Pilgrim merchandise, the buying line and autograph line were right next to each other so i got to see Bryan Lee O'Malley up close he was like 2 feet from me! It was pretty cool. I bought volume 6 at the booth because my copy didn't arrive in time for me to take it to read at SDCC. I also bought a poster, the book came with a rubber bracelet, and i bought this small Scott Pilgrim comic book. After that i just wandered some more seeing if i could get any freebies. Slim pickings. I was tired from lack of sleep, hunger and visually over stimulated by all the stuff at con. I took the free shuttle to the hotel, i was going to say back to the hotel but at that time i hadn't gone to the hotel yet.

The rest of the gang waited for me to get back before we ventured out for food. They decided on some place called JWOK because of yelp. We didn't really have to wait to get a seat for like 7 people. They were an Asian fusion type of place, i don't think i've gone to that type of restaurant before. So people were hungry and ordered some small plates of food and drinks. I got some Thai tea, i was craving it because i was on a water and alcohol only diet since coming home. People's small plates were apparently very delicious. I ordered something called Tasty Pork. All i knew was that it was a sandwich and i was hungry. Once we ordered we were browsing through the menu. There was something called the J-OMG. We all wanted to know what that was but the waitress told us it was a surprise. I was guessing it was going to be something disgusting involving peanut butter, mushroom and other stuff that Mary hated. We all got our food and thoroughly enjoyed it. My Tasty Pork was to die for, so tasty like it says in the name. We were all satisfied with the meal after a long day. We then ordered the J-OMG, we had no idea what we were in store for. It came out and it didn't look like much, sort of like a folded over fried crepe, but once we tried it we all died and went to heaven. It was sooooo good. It was like a crepe and fried but with condense milk and sugar or honey. It was just awesome and we (maybe just myself) kept saying JoMiGod!

We did some shopping at a CVS i saw cute puppies and we went back to the hotel. We were all pretty beat. I slept in the bed with Mary, then it was lights out. OMG someone was snoring up a frakkin storm. Mary and i barely got any sleep, the snoring was so loud and consistent. I think it was the worst night of sleep i've ever gotten. I tried sleeping with the pillow on top of my head and all sorts of things, it was just so loud.

July 21: Gas Lamp district, this place was poppin during comic con.

July 21: Me in last year's volunteer shirt and Cafe Diem from Eureka (tv show)

This year i wasn't planning on dressing up too much, but with less than a week until comic con, i found that i have 4 costumes hahahha!

1. Brain slug victim, i bought this headband from Esty seller "ScavengingWoodrats".

2. Unactive doll from The Dollhouse, the outfit is yoga clothes from American Apparel but i'm also going to wear a cardboard sign that says "Did I fall asleep?" and on the back "Mayonnaise is a fruit".

3. This costume i actually made, Alice from a SyFy series, i'm not that great at sewing but i did my best.

4. Knives Chau from Scott Pilgrim, i have all these clothes in my closet, i just need fake colored hair extensions.

Letter 4 - Your sibling or closest relative

(i'm going to write this to my cousin going to UCSD)

Dear Cousin,
I know you think it's going to be boring going to UCSD instead of UCSB, but college life is what you make out of it. Just be open minded and you'll have a blast. College is going to be some of the best years in your life, trust me. You shouldn't be worried about college life, it's going to be fantastic, just look for what you're interested in and immerse yourself in it. You'll love it.
Love, Jeany

Letter 3- Your Parents

(This letter is super rant-y)

Dear Mom,

I think it's really great you're letting me live in the house rent free. I just wish i could get a job so that you can stop hounding me to get one and preventing me from having fun. The job market is very brutal, most of these jobs i'm over or under qualified. The economy sucks, sorry i couldn't find a job in the few last days i've been looking for one. I want a job too and the money it comes with.

Also stop feeding me so much, you say that i'm getting fat but you're pushing all this food towards me. I already ate, i don't need to eat 10 times a day!

Another thing, i still don't know what i'm going to do with my life, stop pressuring me! I'm having a quarter-life crisis, i don't know what's going to happen so stop asking! Maybe i'll find something i really love to do, maybe i won't, the future is not so clear for me.

Love, Jeany

175, 176/365

June 24: This day i was in a slump, so here's picture from today. It's Princess Cake, something very delicious from IKEA. Mmmm...

June 25: This should be the official spokespanda for IKEA. He's had a long day at work hahaha!

So the past few days i did not leave my house because i have to find a job before i go out spending money and being happy. Today i went out to go find some clothes for my costumes for comic con. I was going to go alone but I asked helen to go with me because she was online. We went to two thrift stores, there were tons of things to see/buy. It was really fun looking at junk but a little bit smelly. After we went to IKEA because we wanted ice cream and lingonberry tea. We ended up in the IKEA restaurant and i bought a big plate of swedish meat balls and Princess cake, as seen above. Helen got some salmon. The food was all really good but it was a LOT of food, we underestimated it's filling-ness. We were really full so we walked around IKEA and found a depressing looking panda. Then we spent the rest of the time putting the panda in weird situations and saying lolcaptions, his look was priceless. I got what i needed for my Alice costume but i still need a yellow raincoat and pink sunglasses for my Jubilee costume. I'm super excited for SDCC!

Letter 2- Your Crush

(Sighhh, if you know me, you probably know i'm still hung up about my crush)
(my tenses are all fucked up, hahaha!)
(this is really long letter, there's no TL;DR summary at the bottom)
( wow i spent like an hour on this)

Dear Crush,

Usually when i fall for a guy then get to know him, i quickly lose interest, but with you, i don't know. I've never really met a guy like you, someone who is so sure about himself ,thinks very logically and lives in the now. You've claimed you have no emotions but i know you better than that. You make this claim but i can see that you're just using that as a shield or barrier against other people. You're the first person i've met that did not open up to me within a reasonable amount of time. You are a tease because you'd only give me glimpses of your true no-holds self, but i was chipping at the surface, i was getting through to you. It's just that i only had one quarter with you, such a short time but i really got to know you. You got to know me, but i have no idea how much of my personality you absorbed or if it just went through one ear and out the other.

The reason i did not confess my "love" for you was because i knew that it would never be reciprocated as sad as that seems. I actually liked you for you, not someone you could have been or someone made up in my mind. I didn't tell you i had a big crush on you, but you knew. I know you were only looking for someone that you physically liked, you never really looked for a girl with personality. Heck i don't even think you were looking for relationship. You only saw me as one of the guys. You never lead me on, i think i only lead myself on. You were a great friend. Most of all, you weren't dense, you could see the nuances (geez i was way more dense than you, hahhaha).

I really like that you talked about yourself, sometimes when i talk to people i talk about myself in order to keep the conversation going. But you saw that i was always willing to listen. You genuinely wanted to make me a stronger person by telling me not to just take crap from my mom and telling me to just use logic more (and not my emotions). You were a great person to talk to (except when your roommates interrupted). I miss talking to you because you thought so logically, you helped make everything clearer.

I liked that you were so passionate about your hobbies. You even let me sit in on your private piano sessions, i think that's what i enjoyed the most. I would just sit there and listened while you played to your hearts content.

The reason i'm so hung up on you (i think) is because i know you're not the type to just keep in contact via internet/facebook or phone calls and i know i'm not going to see you (probably ever). I hung out with you practically everyday and I never weaned myself off of you, i just quit cold turkey the night i left for home. I guess there was no proper closure of our friendship. I've tried talking to you on facebook but you don't really respond, that's really strange but it helps me get over you (maybe that's what you're doing :/).

I have to move on, I could think to myself, maybe one day he'll realize what he's missing (a girl who accepts him for him and his flaws). I know that's going to be a long time from now and i don't want to wait for something that might never happen.

I've thought to myself, maybe i can get over you by distracting myself with other guys. No, i don't want to be my boy crazy self. I think that i should not worry about dating or anything. You've made me not boy-crazy, that's just preposterous.

You were my first REAL college crush. I just need to let you go.

Love, Jeany
P.S. I don't think i'll forget about the time i kissed your cheek (before i got to know you), the only thing i thought right after was "prickly" and i think i'll always smile when i think about it.

Letter 1 - Your Best Friend

(I don't have one best friend so this is a letter to them all)

Dear Besties,
You girls have been there for me since high school. I know our bigger friend group broke up right after high school, that is expected, but I am so glad that we stuck together. You guys have been my rock while I was away in Santa Barbara. I always knew that I'd come home to open arms and warm hearts. If anything got too hectic I could always come home and just talk to you guys about my problems, these talks and hangouts were very important to me. You each are amazing in different ways, but differences are what make you, you. (man this sounds cheesey). I know it's hard for me to express my gratefulness through words or actions, but I think you guys already know. Thanks for being there for me.
Love, Jeany

June 18: Randomly encountered this in Burbank.

Today Cynthia and i went to submit our paperwork to become extras in television and movies. We didn't think there were going to be that many people because the hours were only from 10:30-11:30am. Really strange. So we went and we were about 10mins late, we walked into the office building and it was pretty much jam packed. I was really surprised. All we did was wait in line, submit our paperwork, and get our picture taken. Simple as that.

Now all i can think of is if i can get any jobs as an extra. It's a call in service so you call in and hear the jobs available. Too bad i don't fit the parts they had today. If only i was in my late 20's, i could have been an extra on Entourage (not that i even watch that show).

I hope i can get a job like once every two weeks or more because it's not too demanding of a time schedule and working a day gives me about $100. Sounds like a good deal to me. I wonder what is in production now.

My goal for being an extra is to work in a show i like or a movie with a celebrity i know or get one SAG voucher. I hope i get a job. Eeee! So excited even though i haven't booked anything yet.

Fine i'll blog

I'm going to blog because i have nothing really else to do and i should have kept blogging during the school year. I don't really blog because i know i'm going to look back and say, "geez i was boycrazy" or "dang, i'm boring". I'll give it another shot.

So life as a graduate so far, don't know what to make of it yet. The first 2 days I did not have internet, i realized how dependent i am on internet. I felt really disconnected from the world. It was depressing. Luckily the internet picked back up, phewww! Over the last two days i missed out on vuvuzela craze and the disapproving Beckham memes.

First day after going home i went to the beach, it was nice. I freaked people out and showed them sand crabs. Helen got stung by a bee at the beach by stepping on it, that was really strange. I met up with some high school people that i haven't seen in a long time, it was like we were back in high school again. With my best friends i always feel like i'm back in high school.

Today i basically tried to clean and organize the house. It's a big task to take on. I worked really hard just cleaning all day. Being at home has been nice...so far.
