Trying new things/church experience

I miss having roommates, I miss just talking to other people just to hear myself, I miss having no one to just talk about mundane things. So I'm going to start blogging a little bit more.

Today I went to study with some people at this girl, Bree's house. I thought we were just going to sit around studying. Surprise, her family is having a BBQ and we're going to get tons of yummy food to eat. It really caught me by surprise. We did very little studying and did mostly eating and talking. It was cool hanging out with people from class.

I tried some new food too. I actually ate cilantro without it tasting like soap or tasting really strong. Bree's mom offered me some chimichurri, she told me it was made from chopped up cilantro and parsley. I was very reluctant and I told her that I didn't like cilantro. The mom told me her mother-in-law also hates cilantro. Hey I try anything once. You're supposed to put it on meat. So we had some steak and i tried just a bit. It was actually really good, i couldn't taste the soapyness or strongness of it. Let's just say i ate a ton of this chimichurri.

This is going to sound gross but the next thing i tried was FUCKING delicious. Bree's mom told us that a friend taught her how to make this delicious thing. Take strawberry and roll/cover it in sour cream then you roll it in brown sugar. Eat up! It was just so surprisingly good.

Everyone in my group, 3 other people, go to church. Today's sunday, so they were going to go to church. I didn't mind tagging along because we were going to study for reals after. A lot of people know i don't believe in God and don't really care for religion. So we go in, it's a really nice place, furnished by IKEA. It's a young person's parish (?). The pasture is talking and i'm listening. I was fine with the over all message he was promoting, which was to love everyone, blah blah blah. There were some instances during his speech, which i highly disagreed but it was whatever. I only got pissed off when he, in passing, bashed evolution.

I was fine with the preaching, the part i hated the most was the singing. It was about 30mins of singing God songs. At this time i'm just watching people and how they react/behaved to the songs. This is what freaked me out the most. People looked like they were in a trance, singing along with the lyrics and raising their arms up in faith. It was really scary to me, people were soooo into it. It wasn't so bad because to me it seemed like it was a concert where people were enthusiastic and singing along. The bad part was that they were doing this with their eyes closed.

After the service we just hung out, i was bored because i didn't really have anyone to talk to. The guys just paired off and started their bro-talks, which i'm okay with, i just wasn't in the conversation. The guys just took their freaking time in hanging out. By the time we got back, it was around 10pm. We all decided to just go home because it was late.

Overall a good day. My group is pretty cool. Except the guys were teasing me about being a Satan worshiper. Yeah...I'm never going to church again.

What a blog? YEAH!

Just the other day I added some guy I met from study abroad. He's pretty cute but that's beside the point, hahaha! He messaged me saying that he remembered me and that he's in Asia teaching. The last time I talked to him, in person, he was off to Spain to teach as well. In his message back to me he says that he spent about 4 years in Europe and wanted to go to Asia, so he did just that.

I start thinking back to when me and Ann were studying abroad, we were super positive people. We were just living in the moment and waiting for the next adventure. It was just so freeing being abroad, making friends with new people, learning cultural differences. I just get a warm fuzzy feeling thinking about it.

The last couple of months, I've just been constantly worrying. I've been worrying about getting a job, going to grad school, being able to get the classes I want in community college, and also worrying about the school loan debt that I'm carrying. Of course all of this stuff is putting a damper on having fun and being carefree.

I look back at the guy i added and he's off abroad teaching and having the time of his life. It really seems like he's really happy and that he hasn't a bother in the world. Of course I'm jealous, but also his positivity makes me wonder.

Why not think positively? It's not going to hurt, all this worrying is not doing me any good. Makes me think that i've been a damper on myself.

All those things, above, i can just stop worry about and it wouldn't be a problem. There's just one thing i can't shake, the future unknown. I'm the type of person who like to be ready when something comes up but there are just too many possibilities ahead of me and it's scary because i don't know if it's going to turn out good or bad.

I guess i just don't realize that when those things finally come, i will probably be able to deal with it without having too much problems and once it's over, I know i'm going to ask myself what i was worried about in the first place.

I just have to keep in mind that the future is unknown but that i'll be able to deal with it then. There's no use in trying to prepare for everything ahead of me. Might as well just live in the moment, even though it's hard when you're really broke (woops negatively slipped, this is going to be hard).

202/365 Wednesday SDCC

I'll try to type up what i remember, i have terrible memory.

Got up early-ish, i don't think i slept that much the night before. Packed up all my stuff into my car and made a quick stop to IKEA. I only wanted their $2 2 hot dog, drink and chips deal, but i came too early and i didn't want to wait 30mins for that part of the store to open. So i went to eat breakfast in their restaurant. I got some $2 breakfast meal, when i went to pay guess who was at the register? My ex from high school. I tried not to make it awkward by trying to act normal. I think it worked. So the breakfast had french toast sticks, bacon, and eggs. The eggs were fake and i knew it immediately, i didn't eat them, they grossed me out. The other stuff i tried to eat, but i know forcing myself to eat doesn't work. So i basically threw away most my food, lovely. I went downstairs for the hot dog deal and went on my way.

Drove to Irvine to pick Mika up. I expected traffic but didn't get any which i'm okay with. We then started our journey. We talked about a bunch of random stuff. We hit some traffic, it wasn't so bad just a small delay. During this time Mika shows me these things she made. They were black cotton balls with googley eyes. She then proceeds to throw them at me, while i'm driving! Okay i'm exaggerating, they popped out of her fingers and i got really scared for some reason, lucky we weren't moving at the time. After that patch of traffic everything was fine. I think we were only like 30min delayed.

We get to SD and try to call Ann but she didn't pick up her phone. We went to this different place to try to get our volunteer badges but we were at the wrong place, we were supposed to get it at the convention center. We left their parking and had to pay $3 for like 20min of parking >:( what a rip off. So we drive to the convention center and then drive in circles looking for parking. We found some street parking and paid the meter. We walked to the convention center, it wasn't too far and the streets were super easy to navigate. We got our assignments and just hung around the convention center until Mary and her friends got to the hotel. I actually got a preview night pass, i was debating whether to go or to just sell it hahaha!

Ann finally called back so we parked near her school, it was pretty cheap. We visited her studio and hung out there for a while. She was working on a life size 3D rendition of herself made out of cardboard. Ann introduced us to her hot friends and we just chilled for a little bit. I made her a monster thing out of cardboard. Her class was going to start or something so me and mika stopped by this awesome shiwarma place. I was seriously in love with my falafel. Once Mary and her friends got to the hotel me and Mika drove over to Ann's house and parked the car there. We got picked up and me and Mary got dropped off at the convention center because i wanted to go to preview night and i had to show her how to get an assignment.

I was by my lonesome at preview but it was no biggy. I got there like 6:30 when it started at 6pm. I wandered around trying to look for toys to buy, Ann wanted a Nibbler and i wanted a bunch of stuff too. So i just stand in line to buy some Scott Pilgrim merchandise, the buying line and autograph line were right next to each other so i got to see Bryan Lee O'Malley up close he was like 2 feet from me! It was pretty cool. I bought volume 6 at the booth because my copy didn't arrive in time for me to take it to read at SDCC. I also bought a poster, the book came with a rubber bracelet, and i bought this small Scott Pilgrim comic book. After that i just wandered some more seeing if i could get any freebies. Slim pickings. I was tired from lack of sleep, hunger and visually over stimulated by all the stuff at con. I took the free shuttle to the hotel, i was going to say back to the hotel but at that time i hadn't gone to the hotel yet.

The rest of the gang waited for me to get back before we ventured out for food. They decided on some place called JWOK because of yelp. We didn't really have to wait to get a seat for like 7 people. They were an Asian fusion type of place, i don't think i've gone to that type of restaurant before. So people were hungry and ordered some small plates of food and drinks. I got some Thai tea, i was craving it because i was on a water and alcohol only diet since coming home. People's small plates were apparently very delicious. I ordered something called Tasty Pork. All i knew was that it was a sandwich and i was hungry. Once we ordered we were browsing through the menu. There was something called the J-OMG. We all wanted to know what that was but the waitress told us it was a surprise. I was guessing it was going to be something disgusting involving peanut butter, mushroom and other stuff that Mary hated. We all got our food and thoroughly enjoyed it. My Tasty Pork was to die for, so tasty like it says in the name. We were all satisfied with the meal after a long day. We then ordered the J-OMG, we had no idea what we were in store for. It came out and it didn't look like much, sort of like a folded over fried crepe, but once we tried it we all died and went to heaven. It was sooooo good. It was like a crepe and fried but with condense milk and sugar or honey. It was just awesome and we (maybe just myself) kept saying JoMiGod!

We did some shopping at a CVS i saw cute puppies and we went back to the hotel. We were all pretty beat. I slept in the bed with Mary, then it was lights out. OMG someone was snoring up a frakkin storm. Mary and i barely got any sleep, the snoring was so loud and consistent. I think it was the worst night of sleep i've ever gotten. I tried sleeping with the pillow on top of my head and all sorts of things, it was just so loud.
